The 10 Best April Fools Jokes of All Time | Video Games News ...

With April Fools Day tomorrow, we thought it would be fun to look back at the best video game related April Fools jokes. We aren?t ashamed to admit that we have fallen for some of these, but we?ve learned our lesson and won?t believe anything on April 1st that seems too good to be true.

Remastered Wind Waker with Twilight Princess Pre-Order ? EGM (2005)

I can say that I fell for this one and ran to the store after reading it, only to have the store clerks tell me that it was an April Fools Joke posted by EGM. I was heartbroken.

Pokemon Kart ? 1UP (2010)

If the terrible graphics weren?t a dead giveaway, this was fake. As much fun as it would have been to race Pokemon around, we all know how Pokemon Dash turned out.

Sonic in Super Smash Bos Melee ? EGM (2002)

Once again, I fell for this and tried to get it. The way EGM explained it was that you have to defeat 20 opponents in Cruel Melee. I can?t remember if I did defeat 20 enemies, but I never did unlock Sonic and it wasn?t until a few months later that I learned that it was all a hoax. Luckily though, Sonic was included in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Topless Cheat For Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball ? EGM (2003)

I never owned DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball so I can?t say I fell for this, but I know many people who did. The way you unlocked this was by beating the game faster than physically possible and it even led hackers to create nude bathing suits that could be worn by the characters.

Lord of the Rings: Mordor GP ? EGM (2004)

This one took me a few minutes of staring before I discovered it was wrong. Sure, it looked like a lot of fun, but checking out the game clock and just how ridiculous the concept was, I knew it was fake.

Live Action Zelda Movie ? IGN (2008)

IGN created a huge uproar when they made this video in 2008. It was produced with such high quality that it didn?t matter if it was April Fools or not, the movie looked real. Unfortunately it wasn?t and Nintendo hasn?t said anything about a movie.

Sheng Long In Street Fighter ? EGM (1992)

This one really started the large tradition of April Fools jokes. If you could beat all 11 characters without getting hit and then getting 9 draws in a row vs. M. Bison, you would unlock Ryu and Kens master, Sheng Long. This, of course, was fake, but April Fools jokes weren?t as common back in the day and caused a lot of people to attempt it.

Mushroom Kingdom Hearts ? EGM (2007)

EGM has a lot of places on this list, mainly due to the quality of their jokes. Since Kingdom Hearts already crossed over Disney and Square Enix, why wouldn?t they include Nintendo? Well, that didn?t happen and we are still left wondering if a Kingdom Hearts game will release on a Nintendo console, not just the handhelds.

Luigi Playable In Super Mario 64 ? Super Mario 128 Central (2000)

The screenshots really helped to convince people that this was real, but it turned out to be a fake. Although Nintendo did eventually add more playable characters in Super Mario 64 DS, it didn?t take away the pain of not playing as Luigi on our Nintendo 64.

Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier ? Sony (2009)

Okay, this isn?t an actual April Fools joke, but you wouldn?t have been wrong if you assumed it was. Originally announced on April 1st, 2009, no one believed it was true. A Jak and Daxter game that?s coming out on the PS2 (with the PS3 in full gear) and Naughty Dog isn?t behind it? Well, this turned out to be real and, unfortunately, it didn?t live up to the Jak and Daxter name, recieving less than stellar reviews and selling very poorly.
