Trying to get my emotions in check

OK I'm back to blogging, did you miss me? lol. Was having some depression this week, this weather sure hasn't been helping, it has been rainy, today very humid. Had some chamomile tea with honey which helped calm down my stomach. Trying to remain strong and keep a positive attitude. Just want to feel settled in a job I really like, one that is more secure.

This morning I heard from a company I applied to for work. I have been applying online to jobs but I have also been mailing out resumes and cover letters to companies I wish to work for. Some people might think it's wasting my time, wasting stamps but I say, it's a way to cover all bases. Yes, it may be the old fashioned way of doing things, but I have heard back from 3 places already that I mailed my resume and cover letter to, one place did not have work,, but it was nice of him to phone me back, the other was a hotel which only had a front desk job which paid around minimum wage and I need a sit down job because of my back.

This morning a publishing company phoned me, it was the actual owner of the Publishing company who phoned me , yes I had sent my resume directly to him. He said he had received my resume in the mail, now that would be an interesting job. They do Custom publishing and work with small businesses and billion dollar corporations. I looked them up on Manta. He asked if I wanted FT or PT work, he said he thought he might have room for another person PT. He seemed excited when I said PT his voice got higher like he was excited about that prospect lol. He sounded like a very nice man we were getting along great on the phone, an older man. Older works, I'm older lol.

I have a job interview early this afternoon with the Owner of the Publishing company, woohoo! I am excited. I told him I had worked for the VNA (Visiting Nurse Association) he was impressed, he said they used to publish a medical magazine for them . He told me its a lot of phone work, but....I'm really good on the phones, the friendly type and I'm kind and caring. I think the job entails Excel as well and emailing but I'm OK with that. I don't know how many hours he considers PT but I figured out the pay for a 25 hour work week and it's pretty good considering it would be around $13 an hour for PT.

I used to work for Tru-Green a lawn care place in their accounting department, one of the ladies who worked in Customer service would basically chew the heads off of people phoning in who had problems, she was just so nasty to them. I was surprised they kept her on that job and didn't fire her.

I saw a position offered online yesterday, it was for Manager of Tru-Green, I have the existing manager as one of my job references, oh well. At least I have a couple more references I can use aside from that company.

It would be nice to get the job at the Publishing company it is in the town where I live, not a bad commute at all, the pay is even in the ballpark of what I want. I guess mailing out resumes does work. I told my bf he should also do that, it might net him a job. So many times online resumes go through a computer which just spits out the ones they feel are pertinent to the job and the rest are tossed. Why you never hear from places. I have only had luck applying online from Craigslist ads and those you really have to be careful, there are a lot of scammers on that site. Other positions I have applied to online, but....not a word from them.

When it is such a tough economy, you have to go above and beyond what other people are doing to apply for and get a job. I have put a ton of effort into finding a decent job. Telemarketing is good for a temp job, because if you don't make their daily quotas you are out the door. It is just not a secure job, but...if you need money temporarily 'til you find the job of your dreams, then it will bring in money to help with the bills.

It sure would be nice to be working a job which pays decent. PT telemarketing at $9 an hour just doesn't cut it. I have a dream and I will be buying a home. I have a lot of drive and when I want something I go for what I want. I will make sure that it happens.

I'm still sitting here in shock that anyone actually phoned me this morning about a job lol. Most job options these days are either for telemarketing jobs, phone answering jobs where you have to work every weekend and holidays,or stocking shelves and cashiering in retail stores for minimum wage. I do want my weekends free for some fun. some relaxation, I think everyone needs that in their life. I used to volunteer, work PT Saturdays at Tru-Green, but that was no biggy, it was right down the street from where I live, plus the extra money was nice, so a little overtime, never a problem.

It will be interesting working in a field I've never worked in before if I do get hired for this job. I truly would love to reinvent myself, do something different. I've worked many jobs in the insurance field, Travelers, Aetna Life and Casualty, Phoenix Mutual. Would be nice to have a change of pace. I've also worked for a couple of hotels, once as an Administrative Assistant, back in the day when all they had were typewriters lol. I did however get free food for lunch and pastries, not a bad gig lol. I also worked for Water's Edge as a temp for a week, also, free food, Water's Edge is a resort and it's so nice. I did word processing for them, a hard job but that's what I liked about it, I like something which challenges me and I did well on that job, too bad it was just a temp job.

So....I am sitting here mulling things over, need to get out some interview clothes for today, probably go over the Excel I do know, I need to review that, just printed off my job references, I like to go prepared to interviews.
