Shelbourne Park: Broadstrand Lad, a tough competitor in Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby - Round 2 - Heat 16
Heat 16 will the final contest of the Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby - Round 2 at Shelbourne Park on Saturday, August 11th. Six very good runners are all set to compete in the 550 yards clash, scheduled to begin at 22:15 GMT.
Among the participants are: Cabra Millie, Broadstrand Lad, Hillcroft Joe, Mines A Pint, Ferdia Oscar and Late Owl. The champion hound will leave the field with a handsome cash prize worth ?250.
Broadstrand Lad looks to be the most interesting candidate. The black dog has been performing consistently over the past few weeks. In the opening round of the championship, he was quite impressive, although he could not dominate the proceedings.
After getting crowded at the second bend, it was very difficult for him to get his head in front. However, he did well to ensure the runner-up spot. His recent effort shows that the son of Hallucinate can perform even better, if he gets a clear passage.
Out of others, Cabra Millie is the strongest one. G. Holland?s trainee was super impressive in the opening round of the Derby. The white and brindle bitch ran so brilliantly that the rest of pack looked helpless in front of her. Following a sterling effort, the dashing bitch ensured the top rank by five lengths.
Hillcroft Joe was an unlucky loser last time. The black dog stepped into the Derby after a comprehensive win over 525 yards. However, he was unable to continue his good work, as he got bumped at the start of the race. An improved performance can be expected from him, if he gets a clean ride.
It is hard to recommend Late Owl after his recent trouncing. Mines A Pint is not in good form these days. Ferdia Oscar surprised everyone by ending up among top-3 last time. Since he was beaten by Cabra Millie, there will be some pressure on him against the same opponent.
Cabra Millie?s stats are surely very impressive, but we expect Broadstrand Lad to come up with a classy act and upset her in today?s big meeting. We wish the best of luck to all the hounds.
