Aromatherapy Treatment ? An Alternative Health Science? | Health ...

Can smelling oil really make you feel better? An aromatherapy treatment is based on a more holistic approach to dealing with health issues and complaints. It?s a totally natural, non-invasive treatment that looks at a person as a whole as opposed to just isolating the disease or illness and dealing with that only.

Aromatherapy treatments are an art and a science that involves the use of naturally aromatic plant extracts in aiding the health of the mind, body and spirit.

There are two ways in which an aromatherapy treatment is thought to function. The first is through one?s sense of smell which interacts with the area of the brain that regulates memories and emotions.

The second is more straight forward. The essential oils of some plants have medicinal properties that can bring relief to certain types of skin conditions.

Although the scientific community is still researching just how effective these methods really are there are a vast array of conditions for which aromatherapy has provided relief and beneficial results for.

These include common skin conditions like acne, cellulite, dermatitis, psoriasis, varicose veins, eczema, and stretch marks.

An aromatherapy treatment has also shown to beneficial to emotional problems such as moodiness, depression, irritability, hysteria, panic attack, insomnia and lack of concentration.

It?s also been used to treat a variety of ailments: strains and sprains, bruises, burns, flu, bronchitis, asthma, muscular aches and pains and digestive problems like constipation.

Apart from it?s practical uses, however, an aromatherapy treatment can have some drawbacks. Some users may experience allergic reactions to the various plant extracts and oils.

Also, certain oils like bergamot are photo toxic. They react with sunlight to create a compound that could burn your skin.

Finally, an aromatherapy treatment can affect a conventional treatment. The use of some oils can either diminish or exacerbate other medications.

For these reasons, if you are considering an aromatherapy treatment for an existing condition or ailment, you must ensure that you are dealing with a qualified aromatherapy practitioner as using essential oils is a precise and learned science.
