The L.A. County Probation department has released a report on Lindsay Lohan -- and it contains some shocking revelations.
The biggest bombshell is that Lohan -- who recently pled "no contest" to misdemeanor grand larceny for allegedly stealing a necklace from an L.A. boutique -- continued to drink during and after her court-appointed stay at the Betty Ford Center.
Remember the incident in December 2010 in which Lohan was accused of sneaking out of rehab to go to a bar, then assaulting a clinic worker? Lohan swore she wasn't drinking and didn't attack anyone; the Betty Ford employee was fired for talking to the press; and the charges were eventually dropped for "insufficient evidence." However, the probation report says that restaurant and nightclub employees told the police that they saw Lohan drinking that night. Furthermore, she tested positive for alcohol in February, just as the stolen-necklace saga was beginning -- and just a month after leaving rehab.
It gets worse. Remember how Lohan's whole defense against the theft charge was that she was loaned the necklace and "forgot" to return it? According to the probation report, Lohan actually may have a history of shoplifting jewelry. The report says that Lindsay "has been suspected of similar conduct in other jewelry stores" -- although no other charges have been filed.
It seems that Lohan's probation officer was arguing for a tougher sentence than the judge handed down. The recommendation in the report is that Lohan "be ordered to serve at least six months in county jail." Judge Stephanie Sautner sentenced Lohan to 120 days in jail, which will most likely be reduced to a two-week house arrest. Another area in which the probation officer and the judge differ: the root of Lindsay's problems. LiLo's probation officer states in the report that he believes "substance abuse" is behind her lawbreaking behavior; but Judge Sautner said during sentencing that she believed Lohan needed counseling, not another stay in rehab.
Through the probation report and the latest court hearing, we see two different takes on Lohan's problems. Her probation officer believes she's an addict and a serial shoplifter; the judge seems to think she's a spoiled rich kid in need of a reality check (and some therapy). Will any of this -- the community service, the extended probation, the house arrest, the public humiliation -- get Lindsay back on the right track? We sure hope so, but this new probation report has us worried that she may be beyond caring -- and has been for a while.
